Re: New School Site

Construction on the first new elementary school project in Mount Vernon in 21 years has begun and with it, excitement and curiosity.  The temptation to take a look at the project has drawn a number of people onto the property.  Please be aware that doing so poses some significant personal safety risks, including but not limited to the following conditions:

  • Logs from cleared trees have been stacked into large piles. These stacks and the debris in them are unstable and can begin to roll.
  • The site has not been compacted and large holes are covered by material that can collapse even under minor weight.

In addition to safety concerns, our site is surrounded by a number of environmentally sensitive areas that can be damaged by individuals walking through the property.

Costs incurred by compromising the site, including the removal of fencing, signs, and survey stakes, are passed onto the district and reduce the dollars available for construction.

It’s our goal to keep everyone safe during the course of our construction project and to keep funds directed towards providing the best learning space we can afford for our students.  We need your help to reach these goals.

A webcam will be installed soon with internet connection, so we can all safely watch the project take shape.

Thank you.  We look forward to celebrating the opening of our new school with you in the fall of 2018!
